F1 2013 Race, Canadian Grand Prix.

F1 2013 Race, Canadian Grand Prix.

Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton!

Montreal, 7-9 June.
Live on BBC TV and BBC Radio 5 live plus live text commentary online.

Based on information from the BBC Sports F1 Website.

For this F1 fan, the single man of the race has to be Fernando Alonso, for holding in there against huge pressure, mostly my vote goes to him for tactical driving, (staying ahead). But, this race has two other drivers that stand out for me, Felipe Massa, (I am a big fan of Massa). and Paul De Resta (surprisingly! Because I am not usually a fan of De Resta's driving style).

And, I naturally avoid taking notice of De Resta, for the similar reasons I mentioned further down this post. Like Grosjean, De Resta was another driver that some stupid F1 commentators were taunting us Schumacher fans with, saying last year that he could possibly replace Schuey, (even before the end of the season, ha ha ha ha, I never laughed so much in my life). No way!

No-one is talking about De Resta (apart for Coulthard commentating for the BBC, who noticed on lap 58 that De Resta was doing great, I was shouting at the TV monitor, (as you do) long before that);

Both De Resta and Felipe Massa had fantastic drives, coming from way back on the grid at 17th and 16th respectively, to finish at 7th and 8th respectively. Wow! Especially for De Resta, I didn't think he had that in him! I will be keeping my eye on him, maybe he is improving and learning after all. Some drivers just get stuck in a rut, either its the car, the team or themselves.

They usually cannot do anything about the first two!

Schuey got stuck, with bad cars the last couple of years, that poured cold water on his comeback.

For Massa and Alonso, I personally think it is the teams that lets them down. Hamilton just won't concentrate on his racing, involving girlfriends and breaking away from his dads metal conditioning, or even being too engaged with other distractions like his dog. Until he his threatened with the sack, he won't pull his finger out. Only after he has been told off, does he get his head straight and concentrate on his race. When he does that, he becomes unstoppable. What a waste!

So, I reckon he has been told-off this weekend, (I'm only guessing), but I noticed something in his body language and attitude this weekend that made me think so. (Just my opinion, I may well be wrong, but I don't think I am)!

In Qualifying, Romain Grosjean actually qualified in 19th  position, but due to his causing a crash in the last race, he was demoted 10 places. He will start last on the grid.

Commentators have been saying Grosjean has had a run of bad luck with four serious crashes recently. For this F1 fan, it is more a case of silly mistakes he keeps making.

I would not like to have to race alongside him, he seems to lack that certain respect for other drivers safety, situational awareness and lack of judgement of distances and width of gaps.

Just watch the past crashes to see what I mean. Yes, agreed, things can happen quickly, but everyone else manages to race without these serious driving errors!

  • Romain Grosjean believes his Canadian GP grid penalty is "quite harsh" but is determined to do his best to overcome it.

I suppose, to be fair, I may be a little critical of Grosjean because I have never thought that he was anything special on the track, especially after commentators last year were saying that Grosjean could possibly be considered as a replacement for Michael Schumacher!

That's just an insult to Michael Schumacher and really annoys Schumacher fans like myself! Vettel could possibly be the next Schumacher, but will be constantly compared to schuey. There is no mistaking that. It is just the price that Vettel will have to always live with.

In my opinion, Schumacher and Vettel are drivers of different times. For any driver to be compared with another, they would have to live and drive in the same time period and drive the same types of cars. Vettel is going on to drive future cars, Schuey drove through history.

A win in the Nineties (1990's) will never match a win in the naughty's ("2000's+), because the cars are simply so different, now with DRS and KERS and no-refueling!

Refueling was by far one of the biggest factor changes that made drivers pay a higher price for failure if there were any re-fueling accidents. Now there are more safety precautions in place and less danger, (like fires during refueling), and this gives drivers like Grosjean a false sense of security. They know they are safe in the car and can take stupid risks like Grosjean does.

Whilst Schuey's reign overlapped Vettels by a few years in F1, (and Schuey remained competitive through out that time).
Vettel is a driver of a different time, a driver of the future!
