F1 Race 11 HUNGARY (Budapest) 25 - 27 July 2014

F1 Race 11 HUNGARY (Budapest)
25 - 27 July 2014

Ricciardo Wins!

Alonso 2nd

Hamilton 3rd

Wow - Driver of the race for this F1 fan is two fold this race. First, my hat is off to Daniel Ricciardo - After he gave us several great overtaking manoeuvres. A great race to see and one for the view-again and again list.  F1 fans will be talking about this race for years to come. Ricciardo may well be a future world champion.

Second man of the race has got to be every F1 fans hero today, who fought through every other car, in a Schumacher-esk style, even disobeying team orders telling him to let to let Nico Rosberg past.  Lewis was doing great, considering he started the race from the pit lane and then had a spin later in the race, it was looking like, lady luck had forsaken him. But he was not giving up!

This is what racing, (not just F1 racing), is all about.    I'm sure thoughts of when Lewis gave-up and lost the grid position he could have gained in Silverstone went through his mind;   In my F1 post for Race 09 Great Britain, I said -   Hamilton's big mistake in qualifying, was when he effectively gave up, thinking he could not improve on his time in the final qualifying lap.  Here he goes and wins. A big lesson he will learn from that qualifying for all his future races, is to never give-up.

I think that thought must have been with him today!  However; He got right up to about 4th position, when the most astounding call came over the team radio...  Let Nico Past....

I was surprised to hear that Lewis Hamilton was asked at about lap 60 of the 70 (right near the end of the race), to let his team-mate Nico Rosberg past.  Lewis did not fold or give in and whatever the right or wrong of that decision to disobey team orders will be for Hamilton, Lewis was not prepared to give up and forced his way to finish third.  A sign of a real world champion.

Lewis replied, I'm not slowing down for Nico!

If he want's to get past, tell him to catch-up and overtake me!

His race engineer would not have made the decision to ask Lewis to move over, it would have come from the very top management. So, Lewis is possibly in for a flogging and some sort of team penalty. Not a nice way to treat your drivers, especially when they have just finished on the podium for you.

If you heard the team radio - as the race engineer repeatedly asked Lewis to let Nico past on the pit lane straight, Lewis replied, I'm not slowing down for Nico! If he want's to get past, tell him to catch-up and overtake me! I agree, Rosberg was not good enough today to pass Hamilton.

Considering how well Lewis was doing, they should not even have considered it, - that's not racing. (Its certainly not cricket)!

F1 comment from this F1 fan.
Just pointing out that Hamilton started 21st from the Pit Lane, in a very Schumacher-est fashion; (After a penalty for changing the cars chassis). Who would have thought, (like Hamilton said himself in the BBC interview after the race), that just yesterday in qualifying, he was sat in a burning car, (on fire)!

And hey - just to rub it in, in a very unsporting way, (since the team did ask aggressively and repeatedly for Hamilton to let Rosberg past), and Rosberg was amazingly in agreement, that he thought he deserved to be in front of Hamilton; Look where Rosberg started!
