Notes for Qualifying Session: - Jenson Button qualified 13th but was penalised three grid positions for passing under red flags in Practice 1. Charles Pic qualified 21st but penalised five positions (last of the grid), for an unscheduled gearbox change.
There were a couple dramas on the track during qualifying.
- Adrian Sutil (Force India), dropped out of Q1 after a brake failure.
- Jenson Button failed to match team mate Sergio Perez's speed and did not make it into the top ten.
- JB also carries the three place penalty for passing under the red flag in P1.
- Rosberg, Massa and Maldonado were other none top ten qualifying surprises!
My Comment.
Although I have not been a big fan of Perez, he has performed very well during his time in F1. It is a shame he has lost his seat with McLaren-Mercedes for next year. But at least McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has said he will help Perez find a drive in F1.
Why would they drop Perez, me thinks? And then help him find a seat elsewhere? That's going to be kind of hard to do. You've just sacked a guy that you are recommending to another team? Get real. I think he is out of F1 for good by the sound of it. But I do hope I am wrong. Look, he bested Button in this qualifying race, what more could you ask of him?
OK Perez did nudge Button in Bahrain during the race and they both were racing each other. It takes two to tango! Yet, I loved to see Button and Perez race each other in Bahrain, this is what racing should be like. OK, avoid taking out your team mate, but those are the risks and the breaks that make F1 exciting.
Race results do show that Perez is not as fast as Button most of the time and their cars are as identical as they can ever be. But, possibly due to pressure from the team boss, Perez did pick up in performance in the last couple of races.
Luis Hamilton is much the same, I think he need a telling-off every once in a while to keep him on his toes. Then he starts racing better when threatened with losing his seat. (Perhaps that is true of most of the drivers).
So, perhaps Perez always knew he was on a losing outcome when he mostly does not beat his team mate.
Don't quote my stats below, this was just a quick look-up, I may have made an error. But I think these stats I correct.
Button 12th Perez 9th in Abu Dhabi
Button 14th Perez 5th in India
Button 9th Perez 15th in Suzuka
Button 8th Perez 10th in Korea (Not much between them)!
Button 7th Perez 8th in Singapore (Close enough to show me the cars are the same)!
Button 10th Perez 12th in Monza (Good drive from both).
Button 6th Perez 11th in Spa Belgium
Button 7th Perez 9th in Hungary
Button 6th Perez 8th in Germany
Button 13th Perez 20th in Brittan
Button 12th Perez 11th in Canada
Button 6th Perez 16th in Monaco Itialy
Button 8th Perez 9th in Catalunya
Button 10th Perez 6th in Sakhir (They swapped roles in Sakhir from China 10/6 to 5/11)
Button 5th Perez 11th in China (Show that the drivers are closely matched, could be the cars).
Button 17th Perez 9th in Malaysia (See Abu Dhabi and India results)
Button 9th Perez 11th in Melbourne
