All thedrivers are basically praising this new track. It certainly has been designed well, from a layout perspective, offering plenty of challenges to the drivers. I suspect that some of the kerbs could do with a little tweaking to reduce their height or smooth them over.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa, wrecked his right front steering and suspension by simply going over a kerb. The kerb was described as 'a full loaf of bread' by BBC Sport commentator and ex F1 driver Martin Brundle. I totally agree, some of the kerbs beggar belief, considering that you could launch and flip a car by the looks of some of them.

Apart from the kerbs, this track has a unique dust-element to it. The dry and dusty conditions promote soil-dust to be blown all over the track. This also creates an air quality issue, not necessarily just for the spectators, drivers and their teams, but also for the engines. It might be that air filters clog more rapidly and reduce engine performance or overheating.

Typically, its raining as we go into practice session one. I have been twittering about the rain, mainly because I am glad to be watching from the comfort of my arm-chair. I noticed that most of the spectators in the seated areas are actually having to stand because of the rain!

So, imagine the reality of having to pay for a seat, only to find; it is out in the rain and has no drain-holes to let out the puddle of rain-water that has collected! Then, you find you cannot actually see any of the cars going by at high speed, due to the ploom of rain water spray kicked up from the tires.

Yes, I am glad to be watching from home! Initially, the feed to the BBC website was faulty, but we could still watch on the BBC Red Button service, (Channel 301 Freeview). We have the picture back online now. (Time now 3.15am).

The BBC commentary team seem to be on-the-ball with lots of great news and info about what is happening on the track and in the wings behind the scenes! (Like Schuey is officially the oldest F1 driver to drive in an F1GP! - I did not quite hear or understand the whole story, I had two commentaries running and was chatting on Skype. I will look out for that story again later).

Going back to the great BBC commentary today, you know you have good commentators when they do things like hold on a few seconds after a report from the pits, so that we can see or hear the sound of a car pulling away. Great petrol-head stuff!

Petrov took out Schuey on lap 19 / 20, until then Schuey was climbing up the positions reaching 9th from starting 12th on the grid.

There was a great battle for second between Hamilton and Webber, great racing!

Saturday 8 October: Practice Three -Had to miss! I could not get to bed on time, to get up at 3am, (guests visiting), friends and family take precedence over F1! So, sorry about that. Massive apologies to everyone!

To me, this is the advantage of F1 viewing at home. Sure, it is nice to visit the race venue, but friends have just come back from Motor Cycling GP, said they have had a terrible time and did not get to see much of the race due to accommodation and fatigue. But, I was curled up warm in bed, fast asleep, not counting sheep!

I've just been debating whether to leave the posting of the race result till after the lunchtime re-run, but since I have got up early to see the real time race, that's what you should have done first. Anyway, if you have not seen the race yet, then 'more-fool-you' for visiting an F1 blog!  Like when you don't listen to any news programs or watch any other sporting programs if you don't want to know the result of a match!

Surely there is no doubt that Vettel deserves to be the world Champion. He has just said that his next target is just Korea! This is how you win world championships, one-step-at-a-time!

The BBC team said he will be also thinking about the possibility of matching and finally beating Schumachers seven times world championships. I think he possible can, but I don't think he will be considering that goal just yet. Perhaps he will after he's won another three or four world championships consecutively.

I wonder, that if he does do it, whether people will be as cruel and harsh with comments as they are toward Schuey these days?

I agree with a comment that was text-in to the BBC, they said someone pointed out regarding Vettel squeezing Button off the track at corner one at the start of the race. They said, 'If that had been Schumacher forcing Button off, then Schuey would have got a 10 second penalty or worse'! I agree!

I hope and do think that Schuey will get to hear of that comment and know that many people believe that would have been the case and that there are a lot of Schuey fans out there.

Singapore Grand Prix.
Singapore, 23-25 September. 2011.

Practice Session One.
I am well annoyed at the condition of the Singapore circuit. It is supposed to be and F1 quality track, yet kerbs are loose and have had to be removed. This has delayed the start of practice session one by 30 minutes.

F1 rules say that there has to be 2 hours between the practice sessions, so the end of practice one is not being extended. Someone should be taken to task and fined by the FIA, to stop this happening again in the future. My suggestion is to fine the race track owners. It is a real farce, currently as I write, we, (the fans around the world), are just sat waiting, watching nothing!

The FIA should at least, move practice-two forward accordingly, if they and the drivers insist upon the two hours between sessions, rule being enforced. I would have thought, (as would any sane person), that is it important to not let down the spectators and fans around the world!

I enjoy following the timing-stats and constant track positions, (as in the picture below from EnterF1.com), making the tech stuff really come to life. You cannot easily get this track-side as you spectate the race, you usually spend more time trying to see a few cars go by in the rain, whilst peering round the ten-foot square idiot banner waver in the seats in front of you! Its definitely home spectating that beats track side viewing.

The benefit of EnterF1 results is that you get each of the sector times and gap during the sessions. It is a shame that they do not keep them on record for viewing after the race! (As far as I know). If they do keep them, they have not made the link to them obvious to visitors.

 I don't quite understand what went on at the end of qualifying, what happened to the timing results for Schumacher, Sutil and Di Resta? (See Picture of Qualifying Results Above).

Vettel, Button and Webber! Seems like you need double letters in the middle of your surname to get on the podium today!

Isn't it an unusual sport, to have so many sporting surnames with double letters? Massa, Liuzzi, Senna, Trulli. If only this could be the mark of a great F1 driver, then Barrichello would be the world champion!  Perhaps that is a Red Bull secret deal with the Devil. Having two drivers with double letters in the middle of their surnames. (Ha ha ha).

Anyway, joking aside, it was a great race today. There's a feud brewing between Massa and Hamilton, with Massa feeling like Hamilton is not engaging his brain when driving. I cannot wait to see how this one turns out. I bet their teams will have them making public apologies to each other by the next race meeting!

Schumacher made a devastating mistake and put himself out of the race. I was very surprised at such a stupid mistake by the great Schuey. What was he thinking? Where did he think he was going with that move?

Yes, I agree with the BBC commentators, that Schumacher is in a good position to maybe get in the points here. He knows this track well, they said!  That's not exactly the point though. Schuey knows all of the tracks well. He is up there with Barrichello in having raced them all for many years and been there when any alterations to tracks have been made. 


So what is the point?
Well, the point is, that it is not down to just Schuey. (And you all know that I am a big Schumacher fan). This is what I have said; "It is about the team and the package as a whole". 

You cannot win races, if any aspect of what each part of the team does, is failing or not measuring up to the high standards set by the other competing teams!  

You cannot push a tire past its set limits!

For example, I believe that because F1 is now restricted to one tire manufacturer. That each team has to design and run its other engineering on the car, to suit the tires!  Some race set-ups, things like gear ratios and brake balance cannot be too far different from team to team, if they have to look after the same tire type.


You cannot push a tire past its set limits! If you manage to use the maximum braking, without making any mistakes, for the maximum number of laps that the tire can take. And if everyone else does that, then you will have all the cars coming in at the exact same time. That's when you get your processional races.


In days of old, when Schuey was always on top. The processional races were more to do with race packages. If team one is simply better and faster than team two and team two is faster and better than team three, and so on, you will nearly always get a processional races!  

Its all about the package as a whole and how the various pieces come together!

The thing I used to like more about F1 in the 1970's and onward, was that the teams could switch tire manufacturer from season to season. A heavier car, with a different down-force, brake balance and driving style, might lend its-self to using a harder tire than a lighter car with different down-force, brake balance and driving style.  

Its all about the package as a whole and how the various pieces come together! Going back to Schumacher, he has just changed engineer and also has been developing his car set-up throughout the whole season. It took him years to get to his winning streak with Ferrari. Then once you have a winning package, it is just about constantly tweaking it, to keep it in tip top condition.

The real test is yet to come. Qualifying! So lets not count our chickens before they have hatched!

It is all about race packages.

Again, the commentators at the BBC have been saying that Schuey is now loosing places. This is not the case, he has not got any places yet! No-one has! What the heck are they on about, positions can only be seen and will emerge in qualifying! Simple as that! That's why its called qualifying!

Schumacher come through the pack (in Belgium), from last on the grid to finish 5th.

I was talking about Schuey, (or any one driver), not being 100% responsible for any outcome. Since it is all about race packages. What we saw in the Belgian GP, was that Schumacher come through the pack from last on the grid to finish 5th and this is exactly the kind of thing I am talking about.

It wouldn't have mattered if Schuey had have had 30 more laps available to him, he probably would have not taken any more positions! If you look back through the past races, practice sessions and qualifying this year. You will see that Schuey's average highest position is about 5th.  This is down to the package as a whole.

So, not counting ordinary racing incidents, that will happen every race, Schuey will average 5th, but might come in higher (or lower), if there is a racing incident that reduces another drivers chances, or sets them back. Other than that, Schuey, just like all the other drivers, will continue to tweak his car, with the aim of increasing that final position. It is rocket science, it really is!

David Coulthard commentary on Michael Schumachers first five or ten laps, dead on the ball. Matching perfectly to what I was saying yesterday, (text above). About the fact that Schuey is not the only reason that the team is currently in third position as I write.

Yes, the final part of the equation is the skill of the driver, but it is just as important to have the car set-up, brake balance bias, engine tuning, gear ratios, tire compound choice, (and I would have said tire manufacturer choice and fueling, but they have taken all that away away from us. Silly FIA).

Schuey yielded to Hamilton on Lap 28. Great, Schuey's tires must be going off. 

Plus he knows Hamilton now has a faster package! #F1, #BBCF1,

So, this is what happens!  Throughout the race the package is under constant change, not only is the car getting lighter all the time, as the fuel is used up, but tires and brakes come in to their top condition and the start to go off and lose effectiveness.

The fuel, refueling point I like to make, is that Schuey and other top drivers like Barichello would have a better chance if refueling was brought back.  Refueling gives us better and more unpredictable  races and more complex race strategies are needed from the F1 teams.

Drivers like Barichello, Alonzo, Massa and of course Schumacher and many other racing dinosaurs can deal with a car suddenly getting heavier as fuel is added, whilst still having to use brakes that are well past their sell-by-date! This is what makes racing unpredictable and interesting.
